So It's Tutorial/Etsy Find Thursday....
Today I'll be sharing a tutorial for curtains I made for my kitchen.
I'm in love with damask print & picked it to decorate my kitchen in after we painted it a "misty surf" color :).
So I made tie up curtains for my kitchen. It's super easy so on with the tutorial...lol...
Tie up Curtain Tutorial
Supplies
{This is what I used. Adjust your supplies for window size)
* 1 Yard of main fabric
*1 yard of back fabric
* One roll of Ribbon
*Iron
* Sewing supplies
First Measure your window width.
The width I needed was 39"I just made my curtain one yard long.
Then cut your fabric accordingly, both front & back pieces.
Next place your front piece and back piece RIGHT sides together,
Line edges & pin down.
Sew 1/2" seam around whole outer edge leaving a 5" opening at the top of your curtain{make sure you do this so you can turn it right side out}.
After you flip your curtain right side out take the opening
that you left & tuck in the edges.
Next Iron your curtain, make sure to iron the edges along
with the opening you just tucked in.
Top stitch 1/4" around the whole outside edge of curtain starting with your opening to sew it closed.
Almost done...
Turn over the top of your curtain enough for your curtain rod
& then some. Then pin.
(I added my label to mine :))
Next sew it so you have a curtain rod pocket.
(you'll need to measure your curtain rode to make sure there is enough room for it to go though)
Now cut two pieces of ribbon that measures the length of your curtain x2.
This way it reaches down both sides.
(I didn't attach the ribbon in case I would want to change out the color sometime)
Now hang your curtain up & tie the ties :)
Tada you have a pretty tie up curtain....
If you have any questions email me :).
Also if you make one using my tutorial I would love to see it!
Happy Sewing ladies!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I've been wanting to do something similar.
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial!! These are very similar to the window treatments in my girls' rooms. The length of ours are exactly the length of the window so that the "shade" fits in the window when they are down to block light. I had them made before I knew how to sew. Nice to see exactly how you did it so I can replicate. :) Stumbled this!

ReplyDeleteThat looks great! I don't have a sewing machine, but do you think it would be too ambitious to try it with a hot glue gun? I gotta get super creative with limited resources!
ReplyDeleteWow, great job! THanks for linking this up as well, not sure I could ever do this?!! Nice!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous- LOVE the fabric choice! Thanks for auditioning for American Crafter- good luck:)
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm going to make 2 of these for my kitchen using some curtains I already have. My question is, if I want to attach the ribbon, how do you recommend doing that? Should I sew it on? I've seen people glue them on some sites, but I'm not sure how durable that would be.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
K
I like the tutorial..you made it easy to follow...like the curtain.
ReplyDeleteRoman shades concord, ca
do you ever untie the ribbons to close the shade? If so, how does that look? I want to make these for my daughters room, but not sure if they would look good down too..
ReplyDeleteThis is so easy to do and exactly the type of directions I was looking for. Thank you for posting. Love the idea of not sewing the ribbon on so you can change it out.

ReplyDeleteMy version. I modified it by using contrasting fabric tubes for the ties, sewing them on, then adding a rod pocket in the contrasting fabric. What I liked about the tutorial was your method of lining the curtain (I used white fabric for the back.) I've made lined curtains before by sewing them right sides out with hemmed edges, but the fabric shifted and they don't hang quite straight.
This curtain is adorable. So cute!
