Hair Straightener Case Tutorial

Tutorial for the Hair Straightener Case w/ruffles & flower :).
If you make one I would love to see pictures.

Supplies:
1. Fabric
2. Bais Double fold Tape
3. Batting
4. 2" Velcro
5. Coordinating theard
6. pearls or whatever you want in the middle of your flower
& of coarse a sewing machine, siccors, & music :)

First cut everything out.
Cut 11x13 (one of each fabric)
Cut 7x12 (one of each fabric)
Cut 11x13 of batting
cut 7x13 of batting

For ruffles & flower:
Cut one 2.5"x24"
Cut one 1.5"x24"
Cut 2"x10"
Cut one 1.5"x10"

Place the batting in between the two small pieces of fabric & then in between the two big pieces of fabric.

Place the soft side of the velcro on the small piece of fabric. It needs to be 4.5" from the right side & 1" up from the bottom. Do the same for the big piece with the hard side of velcro.

Take a 6" piece of bais tape & sew it to the right side of the small pieces of fabrics.

Next velcro your pieces together. Sew small piece & big piece together by sewing across the top of the small piece. make sure it's 1/2" from the top of the small piece (see pictures). Trim Excess.

Unvelcro & flip small piece to other side of the big piece. Line up raw edges & pin. Next round all four corners, you can use a glass to do this if you like.
Sew around whole outter edge to keep it all together.

Ruffles (if you would like to add the ruffles & flower):

Use the 24" long strips to make ruffles. Hem each long side of the strip & each end. Then I used my ruffler attachment for my sewing machine to make the ruffles but there are other ways to make a ruffle.
(if you need to know feel free to email me, dominiquesboutique@yahoo.com)

Line up ruffles on top of the case in the middle & sew along your line from making the ruffle.

For the flower take the 10" long strips, hem one side of each & each end. Then make ruffles out of them. Make a circle out of each one then sew one at a time to the case. Next hand sew the pearls on (or whatever it is you want in the middle).

Last but not least sew the bais tape around the whole outter edge.

Tada you have your hair striaghtener case. So cute, pretty, & very useful! :)
If you have any questions feel free to email me. & again if you make one please share.
Happy sewing ladies! Enjoy!
{for personal use only please :)}

  5. why is it just 1 piece of velcro instead of sewn around 3 edges with the top edge open- so you just slide the iron in and out?

    ReplyDelete
  6. yes. another comment from me. sorry.
I forgot to tell you I got here from the Tuesday Blog Trail hop

    ReplyDelete
  7. @ Kimberly, It's open like that so you can slide your flat iron in the pocket then put your cord ontop of the inside pocket then close the flap over that. :) That way it is all protected.

  10. That is really adorable! I tell ya, you are so making me wish I could sew!! :-) That Hallmark movie was on CBS, but I bet they will run it on their own channel too, so maybe you can catch it there. Thanks for the advice---I lean towards Nashville too. I think the only reason my hubby wants Austin is because he LOVES Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I guess he is from that area. I keep telling him there will be blues places in Nashville too, and it won't be all country. (even though I have no idea if that's true, ha!)
